Psychological theoretical basis of the Im2be app

3.2.2. Personal Goals. The Personal Goals module is an implementation of CBT techniques related to goal setting and progress monitoring. This functionality supports users in defining personal development goals, decomposing them into smaller stages and systematically striving to achieve them.

In line with the concept of a growth mindset (Dweck, 2016), this module promotes the belief that abilities can be developed through effort and systematic work. Personal Goals supports:

  1. Shaping adaptive thought patterns – Users learn to formulate goals in a positive and realistic way, which corresponds to the cognitive restructuring technique with CBT.
  2. Development of self-awareness – Functionality helps to identify one’s own needs, values and aspirations, which supports the formation of identity.
  3. Building perseverance – A system of monitoring progress and celebrating achievements strengthens the motivation to continue efforts even in the face of difficulties.
  4. Increasing self-efficacy – Achieving subsequent stages of the goal builds confidence in one’s own competence.

3.2.3. Flow Coach. The Flow Coach functionality is an innovative combination of artificial intelligence with cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy techniques, offering users support in stressful situations and doubts. This module implements the following aspects of CBT:

  1. Identification and modification of cognitive distortions – Flow Coach helps users recognize negative automatic thoughts and replace them with more adaptive interpretations, which is the foundation of CBT (Beck, 2010).
  2. Emotional Self-Regulation Techniques – The feature offers tools to manage stress and anxiety.
  3. Developing problem-solving skills – The module supports users in analyzing problem situations and generating constructive solutions.

The integration of Flow Coach with mobile technology responds to the trend of the growing potential of using technology in the delivery of CBT-based interventions (Ebert, 2018).

3.2.4. Halo & Bond. The Halo & Bond module focuses on the analysis and support of family interactions, which corresponds to the research of Collins and Laursen (2004) highlighting the importance of the quality of family relationships for a positive resolution of the crisis of diligence vs. feelings of inferiority. This functionality:

  1. Monitors communication patterns – The system analyzes the frequency and quality of interactions between family members, providing data on relationship dynamics.
  2. Promotes positive interactions – Functionality suggests activities that strengthen family bonds, which supports building a secure emotional base.
  3. Supports constructive conflict resolution – The module offers tools for identifying and addressing tensions in family relationships.
  4. Builds awareness of the needs of others – Halo & Bond develops empathy and understanding of the perspective of other family members.

4. Summary

The Im2be® application is a modern tool supporting the psychosocial development of children by integrating the theoretical assumptions of Erik Erikson’s psychosocial theory of development (Erikson, 1950, 1963) and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy (CBT) (Kendall, 2018). In particular, the app effectively supports the resolution of the developmental crisis “diligence vs. feelings of inferiority” through tailored challenges, emotional support, and a reward system that recognizes both the user’s effort and achievements. Key features of the app, such as the task and points system, Personal Goals, Flow Coach, and Halo & Bond, bring personalization to interactions, helping to build psychosocial competencies and strengthen family bonds (Baumrind, 1991; Darling & Steinberg, 1993).

The Im2be® application implements the principles of CBT, focusing on building mental resilience, reducing anxiety and stress, and shaping healthy habits. Through interactive gamification technology, the app engages users in the process of personal development, allowing them to monitor progress, build self-awareness, and develop self-control skills (Merry et al., 2012).

In addition, Im2be® supports families in the upbringing process by offering tools to improve communication and relationships between family members, which further supports the child’s development. The app is an example of an effective adaptation of modern technological tools to support the psychosocial development of school-age children, creating a safe, interactive space for their individual development and building positive habits in everyday life (Jones et al., 2013).
